Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring

Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring is a non-invasive CT exam used to detect coronary heart disease (atherosclerosis) or calcium build-up in the coronary arteries of the heart. The amount of calcium present is related to your risk for a heart attack.

Calcium scoring can be performed without the order of a physician if you meet the age criteria and have at least one of the following risk factors (please check all that apply):

AGE CRITERIA

Males - Must be between 40 - 65 years of age.

Females - Must be between 45 - 70 years of age

RISK FACTORS - Patients who meet the age criteria, must ALSO have at least ONE of the following risk factors:

Blood Pressure greater than 120/80

Diabetes

High cholesterol (greater than 160 mg/dl)

Family History of heart Disease

Current Smoker

Obesity
